"Swades" is a modern-day classic. We can have no second opinion about it. This movie truly had oscar-potential. Unfortunately, it didn’t do very well commercially. People should wake up and start

believing in quality cinema. Yes. The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear of "Swades" is quality. Ashutosh did a better job in "Swades" than what he did in "Lagaan". The story of the "prodigal son" was handled with supreme conviction and honesty. Srk proved it that he is not only a superstar but also a fantastic actor. Here, he was at his natural best. People believe it to be his best performance till date. He was simply marvellous as Mohan Bhargav in this not-so-commercial venture. Gayatri Joshi looked beautiful in a saree and made a confident debut. We don’t get to hear much of her now. What’s up, Ms. Joshi? The supporting cast was good. The music could have been better and the climax could have been a little more well-etched. But we can forget the minor mistakes as long as we get to watch such a classic!
