A book review can only be well appreciated only when it makes sense or is about a good book! I am not sure about the first one but I can bet on the other; and now that I am this big Star Writer- you better listen to me! This book is one of the fine reads and you would like/love it...and if you belong to a species called Men- you need to read this one- for survival reasons!
Surviving Women; strange but realistic, the title itself made me look closer at this book.. and then I thought- “As a woman, I don’t really need to read about... what WE women think”! but then on more thinking ( as we women do!), I wanted to know…the other side of the story…what does the man-kind think of us? That was not a pleasant thought...but an interesting one ;-)and so I took the book...
Here I am, reviewing a book,written by a man, "Jerry Pinto" who talks about women…women as mothers, as friends, as lovers, as bosses, women as colleagues and women as women!
Talking of women, Jerry coins a new term…CIM- Confused Indian Male! These are a new breed of men; men who are young, educated, confused males who need women/deal with women in all walks of his life…nothing new in that; but this time the women are not the usual ones…she is the modern woman who is in control of her life, her career, her money and her man!
This poor CIM was once the supreme-uno, the AIM- Average Indian Male; the gift of god who would take the family forward, the boy who would play football, study hard/hardly and eventually marry…the man would then prove this masculinity by producing an offspring (preferably a male) and live happily ever after…
The turn around happened in 90’s when the other half of the world, WOMEN, decided to do something...So the so called burden of the family, these women decided to become the Modern women; she educated herself, she took her own decisions and she spoke her mind…this turned the equation of AIM to CIM!
Jerry Pinto does raise quite a few laughs, make smart observations and manages to deal well, with a tricky topic-Women! He is not the AIM but a CIM who does try to offer help, ask questions, make intelligent remarks and present a fairly decent picture of the fairer-sex…! He is not the usual man, he is a chap who has “been there and done that”… he interviews men and expects answers which he knew would be coming…he makes an honest attempt and succeeds!
This book is for all men…and for all women…this book deals with relationships in a sweet-sour manner; it doesn’t advocates, doesn’t preaches but yes it makes sincere comparisons., observations and makes a good read.
“Women are individuals while men are sorts”- a line which makes you smile(if you are a women) and frown(if you are a gay)! Ok ok...even men will have something to say on this ;-) Arguments aside, men or women, both need each other to survive; the dependency never finishes….it might be wrongly imbalanced towards female dependency (sigh, men!) but that is another review…another day!
"Men" are always my favorite topic! But this time around, women made an enjoyable read too ;-)
If you are the species called “Men”, feel free to comment, frown or disagree with the book or the ideas…the “baba logs”, “bhai-saabs” and the “handsome cool dudes” are welcome!
If you are “Women”, and you have the main traits ( non physical!)such as… ability to giggle female-ly (opposite for manly!) and cry at the drop of the hat… you are welcome too!
