Cleansing Action:

I have purchased this product when I was broke and looking for a cheap alternative to many other washing detergents out there. I purchased a giant bucket of this product with 120 uses at my local Walmart one day. They had the bucket on clearance of the washing powder for about$7, so I snatched it up. This was right before they went to the more condensed formula and were making room on their store shelves to reflect the new condensed formulas.

I brought the big bucket home and promptly opened it up, and it had a light citrus fragrance. It was neither cloying nor noticeable. It was just lightly fresh smelling. The powder formula does not suds up a lot in the washing machine, which I find the low sudsing detergents rinse better, and the amount of suds does not always reflect on performance.

I used the recommended amount per load of this washing powder. I always add the powder to my washing machine first before I begin to fill it with water. I have a top loading machine instead of the front loaders that are becoming more and more popular here in the USA.

The true test of a detergent is how it works over a period of time. I noticed after using this detergent for several months that my whites continued to remain white and my colors didn't noticeably fade. However, I don't usually use standard detergents on my good clothing. I reserve something like Woolite for those. All of my towels, T-shirt, jeans, and every day clothing did just fine in this brand detergent. I found that Sun does a much better job than Arm & Hammer at removing ground in dirt. However, it doesn't perform nearly as well as Tide or Gain.

If you are someone that doesn't get his or her clothing super stained, then Sun is an excellent detergent. For me, I would use this on all of my regular clothing, towels, etc. and then reserve the really expensive stuff with stubborn stains for those clothes and help your budget along, and/or reserve the expensive color protectant detergents for your good Sunday or work clothing.

Granted, I don't have any small children that spill a lot of food down the front of their clothing but I do have an 83-year-old mother that does. I found that for greasy stains, you would need to pre treat with something like shout or a squirt of dishwashing liquid before laundering with the powder. I haven't used the liquid to know how well that performs as liquid tend to be better on greasy stains, and powders better on ground in dirt type stains. We tend to get more dirty laundry than greasy laundry in my household.

I really would give this product a try if you are watching your pennies. It is an OK detergent for a very low price. It works far better than Xtra Detergent for the budget conscious shopper.
