Sula is one of the most well known Indian brands when it comes to wine. I being more of a white wine person, like their Sauvignon Blanc, which is dry and crisp but I have to admit, I had no idea that I would enjoy a dessert wine, until I tried Sula’s Late Harvest Chenin Blanc. In fact Sula’s Late Harvest Chenin Blanc was the first Indian dessert wine released in 2005.

Late Harvest wines are generally sweet. The grapes used for late harvest wines are more like raisins because they are not plucked when they are ripe and are left on the vines for much longer and thus the grapes naturally dehydrate.

Chenin Blanc is one of the most versatile varieties of white wine grapes, for example Sula’s semi-dry wine, Chenin Blanc, which is semi-dry, yet fruity on the other hand their Late Harvest Chenin Blanc is sweet and has a very tropical taste to it.

Dessert wines are had after a meal, with desserts or as a dessert, but it works as an excellent aperitif. Dessert wines are mostly paired with cookies, cakes, nuts, but the taste is more enhanced if your dessert is less sweeter than your wine.

Sula’s Late Harvest Chenin Blanc is golden with a very faint greenish tint, the mark of Chenin of course. The flavours are that of tropical fruits and the after taste is what makes it so fruity. It is very difficult to put down how good or bad a wine is in words. All I can say it, if you like sweet, fruity wines then have a chilled glass of this. Trust me it might force you to always look for this when you go wine shopping next. A 350 ml bottle of this dessert wine would cost Rs 275. The alcohol content is 14%.
