We bought this inverter around Dec’05. Though had to pay a little extra for the pure sine thing but I guess its better for the appliances. Earlier we had an inverter which concked off. So I went in search of an Inverter. All inverters (namely Microtek, Luminous) having similar features were available for more or less the same price. I have witnessed a few Su-Kam products have really felt that their built quality and technology is quite nice.

The inverter and 150 Amps Exide battery costed around 9,000/- after the dealer bought back my current inverter and 2 batteries. l already had an inverter so there were no extra charges for the installation. The installation hardly took more than 30 minutes. The inverter comes with a 2 years warranty and the battery comes with an 18 months warranty. The inverter is quite compact and is different from the pic mouthshut has posted. Atleast as of now and for the 800 VA model. The inverter also has a UPS feature wherein you can run your computer or any other thing you may wish from the inverter. But in case you already have an UPS I would suggest you should avoid this. The minimum voltage at which the inverter switches to the battery when in the UPS mode is higher than that in Inverter mode. So basically that would mean a more switching.

800 VA model is a 12V model and thus requires a minimum of one 12V battery. For any higher model you would need a 24 V (2 batteries of 12V)model. Also working on the PC and watching television when there is no power without the risk of ruining the equipment has been made possible by my Sukam.

Some features (I guess thats available with all other models) are use of Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Battery overload/undercharge/overcharge/reverse polarity protection and probably a few more.

One more nice thing that my previous inverter didn’t had is that in case you overload the inverter it would give a beep and switch off and again switch on and give a beep this goes on till 8 times or till the time you reduce the load.

Though I have been pretty much satisfied with the inverter’s performance but 3 months is too less to tell how exactly an inverter would perform.

The only thing that I don’ like about the inverter is the use of lights to indicate the various phases the inverter is in. I would have preferred an LCD version.
