If Carrots Got You Drunk....

By: kichuraj | May 11, 2005 01:26 PM
’’I have seen a human pyramid before. It was very unnecessary’’. If you didn’t find this funny, this CD is not for you.

Mitch Hedberg is unlike any other standup
comedian in the circuit. His stage persona, his material and his delivery is so refreshingly laid back and funny that I would place him on the same league as Jerry Seinfeld and Steven Wright, two of my personal favourites. Consisting primarily of one liners and odd quips, his material is absolutely delightful. His casual style makes the jokes work every time you listen to it. Not many other comedy tracks in my collection gets played as often as Mitch Hedberg’s. Even after the first few reruns, there are new jokes to catch and the same old ones continue to crack me up nonetheless. His occasional use of profanity which is few and far apart infact enhances the element of sarcasm in his jokes without ever being filthy.

The bass accompaniment in the CD actually keeps the mood alive and that high-pitched laughter that stands out from the crowd is strangely contagious. Mitch has a way of bouncing back from jokes that don’t work with his characteristic chuckle and wit. The intelligence in his observational and odd humour is only surpassed by the excellence in his delivery. His relatively longers renditions on Kinkos, Smokey the Bear and a few others are also very engrossing. are To quote a few

’’If you had a friend who was a tightrope walker and you’re walking down the sidewalk with him and he fell, that would be completely unacceptable.’’

’’I think pringles’ initial intention was to make tennis balls. On the day the rubber was supposed to show up, a truck load of potatoes arrived. Pringles is a laid back company and said, @$&* it, cut ’em up.’’

’’I used to do drugs. I still do but I used to too’’

But the real essence of his humour cannot be described in words. I am sure it will tickle your funny bone, if you have one. Sadly, Mitch passed away from heart failure in March 2005 just when he was preparing for his big HBO special. I guess I will never be able to see him live but I am thankful for his jokes and his performance that brings me out of almost all lows that life puts me through.
