Staples store personnel won't allow you to test the product you intend to buy, unless you pay the bill-amount for that product.(eg: printer) If you want to see a demo, the store personnel insists that they can do that(open the product packing) only if you pay for that item! And in case, if you find that the device you purchased is not functioning as expected, after taking it to your home, you wont get any support or replacement through Staples, even if you take it back to the store the same day. Once an item is sold, there ends their responsibility! They will ask you to take the equipment to its service centre, and that is not their head-ache!

My personal experience is as follows. I purchased a HP all-in-one printer from Staples store at Marthahally, eight months back. Recently it had some hardware problems, and I took it to a HP authorised service centre near Sivaji Nagar. The person told me that as the purchase invoice(bill) doesn't have the product serial number, they are unable to verify the purchase date of the equipment. I had to take the equipment along with the old bill to Staples store, and after arguing for sometime, managed to get a new bill. The response from Staples store managers were pathetic.

So my opinion is as follows.

Never buy any thing costly, or anything that you plan to use for a long time from any of the Future Group(Pantaloon Retail) store brands, which include BigBazaar, Ezone, Brand Factory, Home Town, Staples etc. They display a higher-price, and a slight lower price value(indicating a discount), while the actual product MRP will be much lesser than their discounted price. Moreover, there are romours that they get factory quality-test-failed(QA-FAIL) items in cheap prices through grey market, and sell in their stores, buy packing it attractively. Purchasing costly electronics devices from such retail stores in India is a risky affair, (unlike in developed nations, like US/UK where consumer protection rules are strong). Here, incase you run into trouble with the product within a short time of purchase, there won't be any help/assistance from the retailer.
