When lemon-lime sodas begin to pall, and flavors such as tamarind and orange no longer please, the slightly tart grapefruity goodness of Squirt provides thirst quenching satisfaction.

Products
change through the years, and I am reminded of the first grapefruit soda, released by Canada Dry, Wink. Encased in emerald glass, this mostly natural soda featured rather unsavory looking bits of real grapefruit pulp swirling in the bottom of each bottle. The taste was quite tart, like lemon-ade, and tangy, with mild carbonation.

The next grapefruit incarnation, the original Squirt, was more bubbly sweet than its predecessor, but at least, had natural flavor. The revamped logo and can we see today, house a hybrid soft drink: with a top note of grapefruit, and noticeable undertones of the ubiquitous lemon and lime.

I may be wrong, but this newest formulation tastes sweeter. A sister product, Ruby Squirt, provides a blush hue and tangier taste, more similar to the original product.

I would recommend Squirt as an un-Cola alternative, good for people who must avoid caffeine.
The calorie content is moderate, (120 Kcal per 250 ml/8 ounces), similar to a like amount of fruit juice, but cannot be recommended for diabetics.

Two ingredients in Squirt, are problematic from a health standpoint, and as a Registered Nurse, I feel I must mention ester of wood rosin and brominated vegetable oil as these have been implicated in bladder cancers and other ailments.
