Okay, I will be the first to admit that I am not a regular carbonated drink user. But my seventeen year old son is, and he also has Attention Deficit Disorder also known as ADHD. People old and young who have this disorder need to avoid Caffeine at all cost. And that means, sodas too.

We know that a lot of teenagers love that bottle of carbonated drink. They like to stand around after events and have a nice and refreshing drink of soda. Only problem, if that nice refreshing drink of soda has caffeine, then my son would be jittery and easily anger when the caffeine reached his blood stream.


So What Is A Mom To Do?

Okay, lets look at the realistic options here. Well, there is fruit juice (my choice), there are those decaffeinated drinks that well, personally, leave one rather flat. There is always water. He is a teenager, that would drink a bottle of water once in a while, but he wants something carbonated. He wants the FIZZ.

Sprite To The Rescue

Okay, I know you are wondering about all that sugar. How can a hyper person stand all that sugar. I would rather he not drink or eat sugar, but that is not truly an option at this age. So, instead we compromised. And it appears that it has worked. He is calmer and does great in school, the sugar in the one can or small bottle of Sprite that he gets once in a while does not seem to bother him at all.

Okay, But What About Taste

I seldom drink carbonated drinks myself, and only get Sprite for myself once in a while. I know that you can find recipes that use this sweet lemony lime drink in cakes and cookies. I also believe I have even heard of a chicken recipe using it. I like the taste of Sprite and find it refreshing when I do drink it, and as I stated before, it is my Sons first choice in soda.

If you drink carbonated drinks, I would say to give it a try. It does not have a heavy taste, mostly carbonated water with hints of flavor. But does that not describe most clear sodas?
