Image is Nothing, Thirst is Everything, Obey your Thirst. This is Sprite’s marketing jingle in America. The commercials show people drinking sodas in order to be hip and cool but later exposed
as pretentious poseurs. The message is drink not for the image, but because of the taste. Interesting message, but fails in practicality as Sprite tastes mediocre at best. It tastes like bland sugar water with a “spritz” (a touch) of lemon-like flavor, perhaps that is why it is called Sprite. Perversely, Sprite tastes best with a squeeze of fresh lime.

Sprite can be used in ice cream sodas in lieu of the traditional choice of root beer. In bars and nightclubs, Sprite is used in some alcohol drinks, but in not that many recipes because of the sugary sweetness of the high-fructose corn syrup used to sweeten Sprite instead of sugar.

As refreshment, soda is soda. Drink it to quench your thirst, don’t expect miracles or feats of human impossibilities promised by marketing bigwigs when you quaff it. You won’t be able to go through the kama sutra any better, you won’t be able to reach nirvana any faster, it won’t save your marriage, and it won’t solve world hunger, or promote world peace.
