As Hollywood trilogies go, this one misses the mark and by a large margin. The Spidey franchise, did very well to hold the imagination of the audience through the first two parts of the trilogy. So much that, even the wife was interested in watching the action flick. Having watched the movie, I am guessing that it'll be a little more difficult to get her to watch movies with action heroes. Of course, I was hooked when the first movie came was released, capturing one my favorite heroes on screen. It was so good, it lead me to go through an entire game version in just 3 days.

Well, for the ardent movie fan and add to that, a spidey fan, the movie lacks heart. On the technical side, the script does not live up to the occasion. I believe that one will have to work very hard to drive away interest while watching a spidey flick and no effort is spared towards that end. I was waiting for the movie to pick up after its steady start but all it did is come to a lame end after a long wind.

A large part of the movie reel is wasted upon Mary Jane Watson's character. Parker spending time romancing her, she having a tough time in show business, she not able to get enough of Parker's attention, she being jealous of spiderman mania, yaada yaada .

What this colossal waste results in is that one of the other characters, Venom(marvelously done) and Eddie Brock do not find sufficient time. Infact, the transformation of Eddie into Venom, doesn't take place before the last 30 minutes of the movie. This results in a single head to head between him and spiderman. The symbiote which turns Eddie into venom spends much more time with Parker, allowing him to spew his bitterness towards Harry Osborne, Eddie Brock and u guessed it Mary Jane Watson. More time should have been spent of the Eddie Brock's hatred of Parker, realising into more interesting one on ones between the two(Venom Vs Spidey). Guess Kirsten Dunst can spin a few webs of her own, the ones that count in the real world.

The other sub plot of Flint Mako who transforms into Sandman is our quintessential nice guy turned reluctant thief in order to provide for his ailing daughter transformed super villain by his contact with radiated sand. Spiderman goes after him as it learned that Marko was the one who had pulled the trigger on Parker's uncle Ben.

The last cog of the wheel is Harry Osborne's(junior Goblin, mentioned by Parker) vengeance for his father's death at the hands of Spiderman. This results in a great skirmish(one of the enjoyable moments in the movie) between the two, where Parker is trying to protect himself and "his friend". However, it also results in Harry giving M.J. the shoulder to cry on prying away from Spider(boring.)

These four participate in the movies long awaited climax, which u watch with half amusement and half relief.

At the end of it, we see more of the man and his problems rather than Spiderman saving the world from the villains. The performances are nothing to write abt. Topher Grace in his short screen time does the best. Sam Raimi really loses "it "on this one. Its the audience that misses out though after having had their appetites whet after the first two parts.
