Spiderman 3 - A clumsy crawl

It’s the girl who is trapped. It’s the hero who is trying to break it. It’s the villain who is motivated enough not to allow the hero succeed in his endeavor.

It’s the audience, who KNOW that hero is going to win and they still stretch their faces in concern whether he would really win.

It’s the movie-making that makes such predictable happenings seem to have an incomprehensible what-is-going-to-happen-next effect on the minds of audience.

Spiderman, like many other movies with all the salt-n-spice has done that so far. But quite sadly, it fails in its third attempt. Spiderman 3 falls flat because of its incoherent slices which do not bind the movie together.

My curiosity was over the top before getting into the theatre. I have loved Spiderman 1 and 2 to such an extent that tattooing started to have some positive effect on my otherwise keep-it-clean kind of mindset. I have loved every bit of them. Peter Parker, May Parker, Mary Jane, Norman Osborne, Harry Osborne, J Jonah Jameson and I have loved Spiderman’s love more than his efficiently geared fingers!

This time around, Peter(Tobey Maguire) has two villains to fight with. One is Sandman(Thomas Haden Church) and Venom/Eddie Brock(Topher Grace). Venom is a result of a mushy black something that slithers out of an asteroid. So, Topher Grace is just destined to get killed because of the attack of Venom. That too when he has just confessed to the almighty that his mind did turn murderous towards Peter following their professional rivalry. Sad!

Venom’s first target is Peter. And when he succeeds in doing away with it, Eddie falls pray to it. Sandman and Venom capture Mary Jane and then Peter and Harry(James Franko) team up to finish their story. There is a prelude to Harry’s battle with himself, which in fact makes Harry the one to watch out for. He comes as a clear show-stealer. In fact many reviewers have termed him as the real hero of the movie.

As for the rest, Mary Jane(Kirsten Dunst) gives you a cold shiver when she tries to emote or speak or act. In fact, this was one of the major disappointment, because this girl-next-door actress has done wonders in first two parts.

Gwen Stacy(Bryce Dallas Howard) and Miss Brant(Elizabeth banks) should have got some more footage as Spidey’s other girls. At least Gwen Stacy. Not because of her curves, but she really looks stunning and can act too.

J.K.Simmons(J Jonah Jameson) pleases with his usual outbursts and May Parker(Rosemary Harris) is as sweet as she has always been.

The latest offering has its moments. But is it not obvious that we are now too friendly with the technology to appreciate every single bit of it? Sandman works well and so does the Venom’s scenes when he tries to get rid of the mask. The battle sequences are as breath taking as ever. But what has smacked us in the first two versions is the Spidey’s story which is not attended here. The battle between red and black does pins you to him, but it is merely a small slice. All in all, Spidey spreads beyond reach in this movie, much like his web, leaving us somewhat disinterested in his leaps.

I never ever would complain about the real presentation of unreal world. The technical side of the movie is excellent beyond doubt.

What I miss is the missing heart beat!
