A few days back I flew from Delhi to Mumbai and chose SpiceJet, as it was the best alternative considering the timing. And obviously the
tickets were comparatively lighter on my pocket compared to other low-cost carriers.
The gal at the check-in was courteous with a nice ad wide smile which made me feel good instantaneously(it reminded me of my Kingfisher experience).I requested her for a window seat and she gave me one.Actually she didnt respond to my request then and I was wondering if it was a first-cum-first serve basis allotment of seats. But it was only when I entered the aircraft that I realised she had given me what I wanted - a window seat :) Neat.
The flight was supposed to take-off at 9.30 but at 9:10 they announced that it will be delayed by 30mins and will be flying at 10pm instead. But, as I realised later, it had to do with the traffic congestion at the ever-busy Mumbai airport. On reaching Mumbai we had to hover for 35mins above thanks to the congestion.Nothing which Spice could do about. So no-points cut here.
Inside, the seats of the Boeing 737- which Spice has- were crampy and to a good extent uncomfortable.I was at the second last row and when I pulled my seat all the way back, a request came from the person behind me to straighten my seat. Damn, I thought, havent I paid to travel the way I want? Nevertheless since even the smiling air-hostess requested me, I had to reluctantly oblige.Bah.I was quite annoyed with the seats. The Volvo buses have far better seating than this.
I asked for ear-buds before take-off to which the air-hostess apologetically told me that they do not keep on flight. I was like, What??? I had to use my fingers.
The air-hostess are pretty good - in both looks as well as their courteous service. I would say almost to the level of Kingfisher.
SpiceJet doesnot provide free food on flight. You have to buy it. I paid 80bucks for a big veg-cheese sandwich and 20 for a maaza..The sandwich was tasty and was worth the money. But I felt they should have taken 100 bucks more in ticket and provided food as complimentary. That way it would ve been good to the brand SpiceJet, since a low-cost carrier providing good, complimentary food in-flight isnt common. I say this because I actually relished the sandwich more than the pav-bhaji and panner-ion-barbequeue-sauce which I got in my BOM to DEL Kingfisher flight.
My check-in baggage was in neat shape when I lifted it from the conveyer belt on Mumbai airport. I was happy there since on my previous Kingfisher flight, they scratched the surface of my Polo suitcase and broke on of its chain slider.
So all-in-all it was a good experience flying with SpiceJet...Though it is a so-called low-cost carrier, my experience was equal and at times better than with Kingfisher.Barring the uncomfortable seating, this is a quite good airline to travel in.
Cheers!
