What really grabs your attention at first glance is the unconventional antenna free shape
It's almost feminine in character with smooth contours and there are no nasty potrusions or jarred
edges which might hinder the joy of the owner lovingly caressing his phone. Apart from the Aesthetics,
the CMD-C11 however has little to offer. It's dimensions are not what I would attribute as ''compact'' with
a length of nearly 14 cm. You really cannot slip this baby into your shirt pocket and expect it to remain
inconspicious. The CMD-C1 is however extremely light (less than 100g), owing to it's advanced
battery ; a 500mAh Li-ion pack which is no bigger than a regular AA cell. The standby time of the
battery is just about average at 90 hours. NiMH packs of other manufacturers far eclipse this
figure by a formidable margin. The reception quality of this unit can be at best described as
''average'' (owing to it's internal antenna) and is nowhere comparable to it's nokia counterparts.
When used outdoors, it does provide the user with a good clarity.Support for this phone in India
leaves a lot to be desired and replacement of battery or faceplates can pose as a problem later on.
What distances the C1 from the competetion is it's multi function jog dial and it's revolving
3D menu. This ensures you dont have to hunt for selection buttons as the dial can be used
for browsing entires vertically and can be clicked much like a computer trackball. The flipside
of the story is that dials have a tendency of loosening up with usage. The display is small but
extremely functional providing 4 lines of high definition text and graphics. The C1 isnt exactly
feature rich with no such creature additions such as a clock, calculator or a reminder list.
The C1 offers a mind boggling 35 tones which can be assigned to phone book entries. The
SMS feature is generic (no picture messaging) but usable with thoughtful add-ons like stored
standard messages.
Conclusion : The CMD-C1 is a reliable phone boasting of unconventional looks and appeal.
I would however not recommend it to the feature/size conscious consumer and with an
on street price of 5,500 (approx) this phone does provide a good price:performance ratio.
