Story:

Snow by Orhan pamuk is one of the best I have read in the last two years. Orhan Pamuk is one of the most talented novelist alive. Being a political novel what impressed me most was the characters, who are doing soul searching all the times including the main character "KA".  As the novel is Set in Turkey you will know better about Turkey.

Question are being raised in this novel that will make you think

Some of them are:

“In a brutal country like ours where human life is cheap, it’s stupid to destroy yourself for the sake of your beliefs. Beliefs, high ideals — only people living in rich countries can enjoy such luxuries."

One of the character Serdar Bey, who runs a newspaper says to KA,  who refused to say he has written a poem called SNOW and is not going to perform, he replies'Don't be so sure. There are those who despise us for writing the news before it happens. . . . Quite a few things do happen only because we've written them up first. This is what modern journalism is all about.

The other thing which impressed me was that Pamuk manages to give voice to everyone involved: reactionaries, terrorists, liberals, fundamentalists.

Even you complete this book still the character KA, IPEK,  will be roving in you mind.

I recomend it to read those who are serious readers.

Regards,

Satyajit
