What a co-incidence ! Thirteen is not considered to be a good number because of a number of bad omens associated with it. This is my thirteenth review and this is going to be on a bad footing.
This review is not particularly about the Smokin Joes Colaba outlet, but on the chain altogether Smokin Joes made a rather very low profile entry in India as compared to Pizza Hut and Dominos. May be not a good financial backing or they could not put their idea down the throat of the venture capitalist ! Jokin...
Originated from: Smokin is actually a brainchild of few young Indians who wanted to revolutionise the home delivery market for pizzas. With a vision to take the name across the country, they opened the outlets via franchisee routes over the place. Presently, they have somewhere 30 odd outlets in operation. Good number? Isnt it ? But, how many are making profits, serving their patrons successfully? This seems to be my review going to focused on...
Outlets : Smokins outlets are type of low key profile places. The outlets always sport a deserted look. There are empty chairs with one manager sitting in one corner. No music ! They are empty even during the days when the outlets of pizza hut / dominos run packed to the capacity. Even one consider that these people always wanted to specialise in home delivery, the expenses on using sizeable space for people in these outlets is unjustified.But..why Im I writing this...Let me come to the pizzas.
The pizzas at Smokin : They serve you anything what Dominos and Pizza Hut have to offer. They serve you right from the regulars like Supreme Veg to the Tuna Fish Pizza.
I must say that their menu card offer a better variety compared to the other outlets. They also have varieities like pan pizza, stuffed crust pizza on the lines of pizza hut.
These people also give u a
choice to design ur own pizza rather than they deciding on the toppings, quantity of cheese, etc. The guys from the outlet have been telling me regularly that they recommend me tandoori paneer pizza, chicken papparica and tuna fish pizza. During my first visit,I tried the tandoori paneer pizaa (Medium size Rs. 175)and garlic bread with cheese (4 pieces Rs. 45).
The dishes were served in 10-12 minutes and that was well appreciated. The garlic bread also tasted good..but there was only cheese, no garlic taste. I moved on to see the pizza. The periphery of the pizza was having a complete a burnt look. God...they prepare the pizza on coal or what ? I was shocked. But i must say, teh paneer tandoor pieces were looking lovely. They were tempting too.
I forgave it and proceeded to have it.. Picked up pizza knife and fork. started to cut it...goshh.....I thought that Im cutting a rubber or what ? My friend said that Pizza katne ke time, fork se jyada tu hil raha tha but that was not hillarious.
Now, its second time with them. I believed them to be a hoem delivery specialist and ordered a pizza at my home. The delivery was prompt and reached me before the pizza was cold. But...again miseries continued. I had to eat the rubber base pizza again.
A few good things about them are like there better prices. They dont cost a bomb for the pizzas. i would rather say that their price are realistic. The delivery guys are knowledgeable and know how to face the wrath of an angry customer. They use ample amount of cheese and toppings...and dont charge heavily for that x or extra quantity toppings.
The point I want to make This is what Im going to say here. I dont mind even eating the pizza below a banyan tree in a scorching heat when Im paying Rs. 175 for a pizza , but for gods sake, have ur pizza bases crisp. Dont give me a rubber ! Even u have a home delivery model or an outlet business model, get ur ingredient of pizzas in order.
Else smoke the joe...coz Uve already smoked my precious, hard earned money twice !
