Having read reviews on Gangaram I feel I must also write my own experience. One of my friends had his dad killed there 20 yrs. ago by a consultants negligence and recently my father in law has also been killed there by lack of hygiene and infections and delay on the consultants part to find the cause of the infection.My father in law was moved to gangaram from fortis hospital in mohali at gangaram consultants request as they were going to perform a liver transplant on him eventually.
Despite us talking to gangaram in advance to request an ambulance with doctors on board to shift him from Moghali toGangaram, they failed to reserve a bed for him in ICU.So he had to be booked into so called HDU dept which had 9 beds in a very small place and only 2-3 nurses to handle all critical patients ! The nurses all used to go to sleep during the night from about 2 or 3 am to 6am so no one was really monitoring the patients and equipment and it was left up to the relative there to keep an eye on the patient !!
Hygiene standards were poor and there was not enough staff to deal with sanitation of the patients either. My father in law caught an infection while there and it took 5 days for the consultants to finally start treating it only with wrong antibiotic which gave him bad rash all over his body. Consultants gave 3 injections over 36 hrs. before stopping that antibiotic finally and giving another ! This caused further infection in his chest and finally lungs where bleeding started and he had to be put on the ventilator only never to wake up. We hear these stories about this hospital day in day out and yet nothing is happening. If any one knows what the official complaint procedure is in India to complain about this situation at this hospital then please do give me the details via your comments so I can try and do something and maybe others can also at least write in.
I will write to the hospital itself in any case and I suggest everyone else does too, sooner or later all this will have to e heard by someone. I am not familiar with any other means within India of complaints so any info is welcome.
