I must agree that initially I was apprehensive about Sikkim Manipal University. I had appeared for the entrance examination of another university for MBA in distance learning mode. That was when the principal of the college where I was teaching told me about Sikkim Manipal University. Our college was the study centre of the Sikkim Manipal University. The principal told me the name of the person who was the coordinator of Sikkim Manipal University. When I called her she told me that she didn't knew anything about Sikkim Manipal University or its courses.
That was when I took the advertisement of study centre of Sikkim Manipal University seriously. I went to the study centre which was a very tiny room in a college. The woman who was there told me about the course fees and showed me the prospectus. She told me that I would get the prospectus only when I pay five hundred rupees. She told me that the admissions were closing in the next two days, which I latter discovered was a lie.
The very next day I went to the study centre with the demand draft and enrolled myself for the course. I was given the study material. The books were attractive. But the contents were pathetic. It looked like the study material was nothing but copy paste work from the internet.
There were classes on every Sunday from ten to two in the noon. The lectures were good considering the fact that it was a distance learning course. There was research work in the last semester.
The examination pattern was that of Multiple choice questions with negative marking. The negative marking system taught me the decision making. Prima facie Multiple choice questions may appear attractive, but when there is negative marking let me tell you it is very very tough.
The study centre was good in communicating. I would get sms about the availability of the study material, hall tickets and of course mark sheets. Even my degree certificate was dispatched by courier.
But I was petty disappointed with the study material. I wish the study material was better prepared. It required more research and pains. I had enrolled for the MBA course just for the sake of learning. I never wanted to use my new degree as a leverage in the job market. So I cannot tell as to whether a degree from Sikkim Manipal University helps in the job market.
I will give good marks for the service of the study centre(barring the lie that the admissions were closing in two days). The contents of the study material had to be better.
