The next Spielberg from India and Mel Gibson in a movie thats still topping the US box-office charts is enough attraction to pull in crowds to the theatres.

Shyamalans previous two movies, this too is scary and seemingly deals with the supernatural. The story unfolds with crop circles appearing in the fields of an ex-reverends family. But the movie moves too slowly in the first half; the second half is saved by some gripping moments, only to draw to a tame close.
Many aspects are left unexplained in the movie, even while most ideas dont seem original. The intermittent flashback sequences dont evoke much interest. The subtle humour is enjoyable at quite a few places. Viewing an international phenomenon from a single familys point of view is certainly a refreshingly new idea; but it is not utilised well.
Gibson is fantastic as a confused, but caring father. The rest of the small cast do fairly well in their well-etched characters. Surprisingly, the background score is reminiscent of other movies. Visual effects and other technicalities are fine.
Dont set your expectations too high based on whatever youve seen of Shyamalan till now.
