And Shyamalan has his first flop after two successes.

This is a lame film. This film would have worked in the 60s. It lacks the charm and intrigue of the 90s.
Mel Gibson does a neat job
in his role as Graham Hess, the ex-pastor. Shyamalan does a fine job of developing the characters and relationships. You get the feeling that the scene is being set for some dramatic turnaround which will present itself towards the end of the film. But there is hardly any such luck.

The concept of this story is very dated. Crop circles were the fad back in the early 70s and 80s but won’t sell today. Towards the middle of the film you get a bit tired of Shyamalan’s attempt at pseudo-science’.

Several plot holes can be noticed in the story too. Planet Earth is being colonized by aliens. But these creatures are also allergic to water. But then you stop to wonder why a highly intelligent alien species would try to make home in a planet thats 70% covered with stuff that would kill them !!!

The highly intelligent Alien species also has trouble breaking down wooden doors.

The only driving force in this movie is the good photography and music. Although the music does remind us of Bernard Hermann, (Psycho and vertigo).

I was at a loss when I had to look for a central theme in the film. Several key issues are addressed but left unanswered. The movie is not consistent with the style of Shyamalan. Syamalan must have been smoking certain controlled herbs while writing this script.

Slightly Disappointing.
