Signs !! After so many good reviews and of course having liked M Night Shyamalans previous work ( loved the sixth sense, did not think too much about unbreakable ), we finally got to watch his latest.
The
movie takes off right away, and you get to find out a little more background about Mel Gibson and his family along the way which is nice, some movies in this genre tend to have a long introduction and then everything starts happenning in the last half of the movie. The story is about crop signs that mysteriously ’’cropped’’ up in parts of the world with many explanations as to where they came from. Aliens everyone thought but it turned out to be a few people out to spook the world a task at which they succeeded pretty much. Mel Gibson is a pastor who gives up the collar after his wife is killed in an accident by the resident vet and loses faith in everything to do with god. He lives with his two kids and a brother ( played by Joaquim Phoenix of Gladiator fame ) never really recovering from the shock of losing his wife and his faith. The crop circles that appear on his farm and the events that follow make up this well made, scary and at times funny movie ( note shyamalans touches of subtle humor ). Mel Gibson has done a great job, as does the rest of the cast. Like in the sixth sense there is more than one scene in the movie that made all the hairs on my body stand up and take notice. The ending some people thought was abrupt but I thought it made perfect sense, all about coming to terms with life and regaining lost faith in god and family.

Bottom Line :

Watch the movie. It might not stay with you like the sixth sense and you may not watch it over and over again but you will definitely enjoy it.
