Story:

Undoubtedly, Tilly Bagshawe has done a great job at writing the sequel of one of most famous stories of one of the all-time greatest raconteurs - Sidney Sheldon.

Mistress of the game starts well and keeps you glued throughout like all Sidney Sheldon thrillers. All the crimes that you read of in your daily newspapers are there - murder, theft, rape, violence, incest, kidnapping, embezzlement. You name it, you have it. Lexi Templeton is the typical Sidney Sheldon protagonist - fierce as tigress and drop-dead gorgeous and the air in and around her is thick-set with the sweet aroma of revenge. She must have it all - wealth, out-of-reach men and their love, revenge, power and fights for all she has got and all she has not.

Mistress of the game has a lot of interesting characters, their lives interwoven with each other but Lexi is easily the star and the story revolves around the beautiful heiress who is deaf but by no means, dumb!

The struggle of Jamie McGregor, the convoluted childhood of Max - Lexi's cousin, the success of Robbie in finding the perfect lover and perfect profession for himself after fighting drugs, the antipathy of his homophobic father and the so-called curse of the rich Blackwell family that he was born in - keep you excited and totally engrossed!

But the end is damp and disappointing. The spell is broken and you keep on expecting a miracle but Tilly Bagshawe leaves you wanting more of it, you keep on waiting for the last and final stroke that will leave you satisfied and quenched. But it's not to be! It is evident that one more sequel is in the pipeline that will take the story further and the throne will be restored to the queen or her descendants. The end is a little abrupt and so, I was not very happy after having devoted an entire weekend to it, given the fact that I had got a free weekend after a long time and was hoping to totally immerse myself in a great book, satiate my hunger for a good read and have a relaxing time. I was wrong. Obviously. Sidney Sheldon books are not the kinds that relax your nerves. They excite you, tense the nerves - they are thrillers for God's sake! Mistress of the game lives up to this reputation.

So, if you are looking for high-tension drama and want to forget your worries, then enter the world of Lexi Templeton - Mistress of the Game. Overall, a good attempt by Tilly Bagshawe. I just hope the sequel to this sequel is out soon and it terminates this saga on a great note!

It is priced at Rs.250 but is available at many sites on internet at discounted prices.

Recommended if you call yourself a Sidney Sheldon fan. It has all the spices that a typical Sydney-Sheldon flick is made of.
