I placed an order for a hair trimmer on rediff shopping and the money was promptly deducted from my credit card. After 2 weeks had gone by and neither the product was delivered nor the status on the order
page changed. I thought of calling their customer support. BIG SURPRISE!!! They have no customer phone number you can call. This is hard to accept for an e-tailer based in India, the mecca of call centers. There is no live chat support either so all you can do is to send email and then pray. It took them 2 days to repond to my query and I was told that stocks are out at the vendor and it will take another 4 days for it to be delivered. A week goes by and still nothing and I again sent an email and I got a reply after 2 days and was asked to wait for another week. This time I flatly refused and threatened to put a dispute on my visa transaction if they dont give me a refund. The only silver lining: the refund came promptly.....the bottomline, 1 month of chasing their customer support and nothing at the end to show for all that effort and anguish.
Basically, Rediff shopping (or Indiatimes shopping for that matter) may seem like a store of a large brand-name but all they do is to front for your run-of-the-mill small time merchants and add no credibility or reliability in the process, whatsoever. Best avoided and no wonder none of the e-tailing store in India has reached the levels of Amazon.com.
