Shoghi-Scenic and Peaceful

By: nyms99 | Sep 30, 2004 01:56 PM
How to Travel
We happened to undertake this Sojorn 3 weeks back to get away from the monotony of life. Summers is the best time to get away from killing heat of Delhi. If you want to
see the snow in and around then perhaps winters can be a good time too.

We decided to travel by train even though Deluix bus services are avalable from Delhi. Two of the most common trainds are Howrah Kalka mail and Shatabdi. People who are in 9-5 jobs will find Howrah -Kalkah mail most convenient. It reached Kalka early morning and from Kalka there are connecting toy trains to Shoghi.

There are two types of toy trains. Delux and normal. Delux would cost you 380/person whereas normal would cost only around 40 bucks.

Delux train wouldn’t stop at shoghi and the nearest stop is Shimla about 17 Kms off. Normal/mail toy train also halts at Shoghi.

Staying Options
Best place to stay are the PArk Wood Resorts. They offer 2 kinds of accomodations. Tents and Bamboo huts. Tents would cost approx 2200 per day inclusive of meals per couple. Bamboo Huts are about 200 Rs costlier.

Other than this resorts there is little else which is available. Otherwise there are normal hotels which are available at much cheaper rates.

Stay
We got picked up by the resort guys and were directly taken to our tents. The tents were a pleasure in disguise. From inside they look just like 3 star hotel room with proper cermaic bathroom fittings. Just outside the tents are hammocks and swings ( with couple seating). These guys have welcome drinks, fruits and the works as par tof the package. First day of arrival we decided to visit Shimla and do our adventure sports next day reason being Shimla is closed on Sundays.

Shimla offers Mall road and the ridge as its main attractions. We also got a chance to visit Viceroy museum and felt we were part of History

Sunday we started with a 5 Km trek in forest and it turned out to be quite exhausting. Don’t forget to carry a bottle of water. The scenery arouns is simply breathtaking. No wander our digital camera capacity of 80 pics was woefully short.

Next we did rope bridge crossing, traversing, river crossing and some other adventure sports under the watchful eyes of trained instructures. It was lods of fun.

Evenings are relaxed where you can lie in hammocks with a book in hand. Park Woods also has a library and common room where you can watch a movie , listen to song or play board games.

Food is good and can be taken either in rooms , open air or even on ’’machans’’

Overall the experience was quite good and we had quite a relaxing and rejevenuating experience.
