John M Matthan had dissapperared from the Bollywood scenario after Sarfarosh. But he is back now with Shikhar. Shikhar is not at all like Sarfarosh but it is as entertaining as the latter!

The story: Gaurav Gupta or GG (Ajay Devgan) is a selfish and shrewd builder. He dreams of making a city. He decides to convert his dream into reality. He joins hands with Rural Development Minister Amrut Patil (Manoj Joshi). GG decides to make this city in Songadh and named it Golden Gate City. In Songadh Shrinath Vardhan (Javed Sheikh) had made a ‘Rishi Van’ where there was an Ashram, a school and green houses. It was beautiful and full of greenery. Some Adivasis also lived near ‘Rishi Van’. GG wanted this ‘Rishi Van’ and the place of Adivasis to make his grand city. Amrut Patil helped GG in this. Patil promised the Adivasis that he will give him reasonable returns to their land and would also give them housing facilities in Mumbai. All the Adivasis agreed to this and they gave their land and shifted to Mumbai. The work of Golden Gate City then started. But still GG had not got the land of ‘Rishi Van’. Shrinath Vardhan then issued a stay order on the constructions of Golden Gate City. GG was in a fix. He wanted to remove this stay order as fast as possible. He decided that for removing the stay order he will use Shrinath’s son Jaidev (Shahid Kapoor). Shrinath actually was the head of Vardhan Industries, which made garments. As Shrinath was doing the ‘samajseva’ Vardhan Industries was handled by his friend Wadhia. As Jaidev had completed his education, Vardhan Industries was now in the hands of Jaidev. At this time, GG met Jaidev. GG told him that his industries should do some advertising which would help his industry. Jaidev agreed. GG took Jaidev to Thailand for ad campaign. Jaidev was accompanied by his friends Madhavi (Amrita Rao), Kusum and Bhajan Lal (Sushant Singh). In Thailand GG changed Jai. GG taught him smoking, drinking alcohol and gambling. GG’s motive in doing all this was removing the stay order from Golden Gate City. Slowly, Jaidev’s life became devastated because of GG. So now what will Jaidev do? And will GG be able to complete his dream?

Shahid Kapoor looked handsome and acts excellently. He is getting better after each and every movie. Really, the performance of Shahid Kapoor in Shikhar was the best of all his performances in previous movies.

Ajay Devgan too acts nicely. He tries his best to give a wonderful performance. Amrita Rao was okay and her role was nothing great to talk about. Sexy Bipasha Basu was cool and gives a sweet and fine performance.

Pakistani actor Javed Shiekh gives a top-notch performance. He was totally natural! Sushant Singh was outstanding and speaks and acts in a superb way. Hats off to Sushant Singh! Manoj Joshi was good. Others have also done a fine performance.

The movie was great in the first 30 minutes but it slowed down a bit after the entry of Shahid Kapoor. The story picked up pace again in the end.

John M Matthan’s direction was flawless and great. He has still not forgetten the direction skills!! Viju’s Shah was music was perfect. As for songs, ‘Fitna Dil’ and ‘Dheere Dheere Hua Dil Ye Jawan’ were great and excellent. Cinematography was normal. Other things were good.

On the whole, Shikhar, though it has become unsuccessful, is worth watching once. It proves that natural happiness is far superior as compared to artifical happiness! Watch it out!
