The coaches in use on the Lucknow Shatabdi are an Alstom Product which were the part of transfer of technology which IR had sought. Offcourse the rack do might not be able to sustain the weight of heavy indian luggage. This problem has been solved in the Indian made LHB Shatabdi coaches which have been manufactured at RCF. The golden era of the Shatabdi was during the Madhavrao Scindia,s era. Bhopal Shatabdi was the only train at that time to run at 140KMPH. But unfortunately due to lack of maintainence and more increase in traffic the train was slowed down to 130 KMPH with running time increased to 8 Hrs 15 mins.
Lucknow Shatabdi was orignally planned uptill Kanpur but later extended to LKO to provide state capital a direct connection with Delhi. Even today majority of pax are Kanpur bound. Offcourse the new rake has given new lease of life to the train and if the train can be maintained properly its going to be the star of IR.
Meals have always be great on this train thanks to IRCTC who has sub contracted the pantry to Rk Catering .
All I wish if they could speed up the train back and let shatabdi regain its lost glory though unofficially the train does touches 132-135KMPH mark thanks to my Garmin GPS which gives me the reading.
