When my daughter had to relocate from Chennai to Bangalore in the month of Aug, 2014, our biggest worry was a good school. She had to be admitted to Upper KG. I searched for many schools and the one which caught my attention was Shanti Niketan school.
Reason? I was looking for a good school with emphasis on individual attention to the kid. I knew that she had to improve a lot on her English communication but still not'so westernised'. I wanted a school which will teach her good manners and build on her abilities.rather than making her feel inferior.
However, our issue was with the curriculum. She came from CBSE(with Montessori) syllabus and here we've only state and ICSE syllabus. I decided to get her admitted for the ICSE syllabus.
Met the Principal. He was quite cordial and asked us to bring the kid. As expected, she did not fare well on handwriting, numbers and oral test(name the object\picture).
He did not ask us to leave. He spent more than 45mins between his busy schedule trying to understand our background, reason for showing interest in admitting the kid in Shantiniketan, tried to speak with my daughter(but she did not respond:D) etc. Finally he suggested us to get her admitted with special tuition on 2 subjects - English and Maths and guaranteed us a large improvement in her by the end of the year.
Here is my daughter, scoring over 75% in the final examination and is quite good in communicating in English, talking well to her teachers and classmates, cheered up and smart, and have been taught the values of parents and teachers alike. Now everyone from the chowkidaar and class four employees to the MD of the school know her. That too in a span of just 8 months. There is an immense amount of effort that these teachers put into forming the personality of these kids in the school and is quite appreciable.
I must appreciate the entire staff of the school for such an outstanding effort, and we as a family are quite obliged to them for what they've given us.
School infrastructure(Buildings\labs etc) are decent
Good emphasis on overall development of the kid(personality, sports, values etc)
Curriculum is very good
Individual attention on kids are high and take immediate measure to correct\improve areas where the kid lack
Good connect with parent and kids
Safe for girls to study as they take extra care in recruiting their staff
Schools fees are extremely low and there are NO unwanted fees or donations
Good transportation facility(though we've not had to avail this as the school is just 150mtrs away from our house)
No marketing gimmicks or unnecessary activities for kids(such as a dressing up competition every week as Flower day, fruit day, animal day etc. which I do not think as an essential methodology to educate the kid about a flower or fruit or animal. However this definitely increases the time, effort & money for parents and the kid is only excited about the dress and not about the learning).
More than us, our kid is feeling sad now that she had to leave that school and join another school in Chennai as I got transferred to the city now.
Note: I have not got an opportunity to explore the Alumni network of the school(in just 8months of our interaction)
