Hindi movies are full of stories of father-son confrontations.Shakti dwelt on this premise also but this time the father and son duo were the giants of hindi Cinema,Dilip kumar and Amitabh Bachchan.Ramesh sippy took on quite a job when he decided to direct both of them.the rest of the starcast hold their own against these two but still they dominate the screen.Incidentally,this was Anil Kapoor’s first movie,where he is introduced as the grandson who comes to visit his grandpa and gets to listen to the whole truth behind his father.The story is in flashback.The canvas is awesome and the starcast including Smita Patil,Rakhee and Amrish puri manage to stay on their own very well.But it is the confrontation scenes between these two titans which give the movie much of it’s power.Basically,it deals with the repercussions of a misunderstanding between the father and son when the son is kidnapped by a gangster and the father refuses to compromise on his principles.The son grows up bearing a grudge against the father and joining a rival gang to spite his father.The ending is inevitable with both of them refusing to lose their ground.This flick wins purely on the powerhouse performances of both the megastars.They do not make movies like this anymore.See this one if you have not.RECOMMENDED VERY MUCH.
