Bairi Piya (Who is the bairi & who is whose piya?
Jan 15, 2010 01:41 AM 10995 Views

Bairi Piya entered the prime time slot 8:30pm on Colors TV with much hype that its unlike other Ekta serials. It was marketed as a message-oriented, social drama which would highlight the plight of the poor farmers in the country. Naturally people would want to empathize with our'annodata'(farmers) and get glued to the serial.

The same happened to me. I dont complain about Ekta's misleading advertisement or positioning of her product. Because what ever they have promised is true, it's me who took time to interpret it correctly. Its truly not like her other K-serials -those turned unbearable after a decent run, but this one is the worst & most disgusting of all which irked me in a couple of weeks. Its truly message oriented -the message is "why do u, a human species with a brain, watch her serials firstly?" It is a'drama' and indeed depicts the poor plight of our farmers -Poor farmers indeed, their name and living conditions are 'used' as a means to bait viewers to this ugly daily soap.

The initial episodes of the serial showed poor farmer families working for a rich & brute landlord -well the description for the landlord changed soon- a sex maniac would be the right word to describe this man(Played by Sharad Kelkar). Now he seeks sexual favors from the farmers' daughters in return for his money or loans, whatever. He meets Amoli(new girl Supriya), daughter of a poor farmer one day and is determined to sleep with her. Each episode shows how he plans to succeed and how she  safe-guards her virginity. A couple of stupid unwanted characters are brought in, so that the'Thakur and the kaamwali' play hide-and-seek admist them.

"Kya Thakur apne gande iradon me kamiyaab hoga? Kya Amoli apni izzat bacha payegi? Jaan ne ke liye dekhiye'Bairi Piya'"

But if you think you dont really need to bother to know if or not Amoli loses her virginity, stay away. The use of forbidden words in the above passage might have irked many people here, but the serial doesnt have anything else to offer. Its really disgusting to watch this stupid, dirty and idiotic serial. Well kEkta is always known to have shown things in their exaggarated form and viewers are supposed to be brainless to think logically. So we can understate all those illogical and baseless things like -the otherwise cruel landlord and his family have their breakfast with their kaamwali on the same dining table, the landlady and the servant dress up alike -on par, the servant's wedding is celebrated in the landlord's household with pomp and all rituals performed with much excitement, etc. But how can we ignore the desparate moves of the Thakur and the much more desparate escape plans of Amoli -all this in the original exaggarated kEkta style? Well, this cant be entertainment -even for the guys who seek provocations!

Its really high time that some one really acts upon to check what's dumped onto the viewers in the name of entertainment. What's more silly is how can a family channel like Colors(which scream its lungs out on women empowerment) allow this sexploitation on prime time.

And the most annoying thing is how can these rubbish-makers call themselves "creative heads"? The heads of these k-heads have nothing to offer to their audiences, except for sadness, extreme selflessness or selfishness, pomp celebrations, poor-little-me protogonists, baseless stories, lavish lifestyles(the characters only understand INR in denominations of Crores!), loud interludes(most of the times subduing the dialouges & yes, mantras -can somebody copyright Vedic mantras? So that kEkta doesnt use it while her evil women are hatching cruel plans!) and age-defying characters.

Not just this'Bairi Piya', but a majority of her serials(Kkusum, Kahin kisi roz, Kis desh me he mera dil, Kutumb, etc) fail to impress me(barring HumPaanch on Zee TV). Maybe she should focus on mindless comedies instead or better still only on movies -atleast we will have a fair chance to avoid watching.
