Story:

We were excited to read this book at the suggestion of someone we met at T. Harv Eker's seminar.  I should have known better.  It was basically a cheerleading book full of one liners.  His "direct talk" that he's so proud of is a common sales trick.  Be firm with someone in an area that they don't really care about and they will come away feeling you are a straight shooter who takes no guff from anyone.

We attended one of Eker's seminars and found thousands of sheep who follow him across the nation as he speaks.  They were actually proud of this.  None of them were rich, yet they hung on every promise he would make.  In fact most people in the audience were average pay check to pay check folks like us.  I'm not sure how they would justify spending tens of thousands of dollars to be a gold member in this fast talkers club.

Eker does put on a good show.  He whispers, he yells, he acts sad, he talks to you like he's your father, and then he makes an offer that's so good that you only have a few seconds to grab it and you have to RUN to the back of the room to sign up for this Once In A Lifetime Deal which if you do it now will only cost you between$2, 500 and$7, 000 depending on which package you purchase.  That's when the sheep start running.  They actually race to throw their money away.  It was so sad to see someone taking advantage of such gullible people.  At some point in time these people are going to have to pay off that credit card that they've rung up thousands of dollars they spent that weekend on junk that won't help them make a dime, hotels and hotel food, and airfare.

Eker acts and talks as if he is doing this out of the goodness of his own heart.  He pretends he is teaching you the secrets that made him rich.  From my research Eker wasn't rich until he discovered this scam.  You don't find those secrets in his book however.  He'd rather pretend it is his positive energy that has gotten him where he is.  We did get to meet Eker who is about the height of a 4th grader.  When we talked to him he was busy scanning the crowd and paying little attention at all to what we were saying.  I soon discovered why.  When he would talk to the elderly and less intelligent who were plunking down tons of cash on his junk he would look deep into their eyes and hold their hands while he hung on each and every word they uttered.

We walked out feeling as if we needed a shower.  I have to admit I only made it through half his book.  I'm not much for light reading and this book was about as simple as they get.  It was full of stories and cheap advice.  Nothing solid.  Nothing usable.  Be positive seemed to be his only message.  I'm a positive person so this wasn't really helpful.  In fact I would say I'm positive I wasted enough time and money on this fellow.
