Disaster after disaster seemed to be haunting him...to a point where there seemed to have come a time when he might have been forced into retirement. At such a time comes the sequel to the much-hyped inspiration,
Sarkar. And, as expected, Ramu uses the "family" to his advantage. At the same time, he treads a very safe line doing what he’s best at - a good plot with "effective" cinematography.

Sarkar Raj begins with the Nagre scion (Abhi) running the empire with dad (Amitabh) being the revered frontend. Ramu jumps right into the plot with Anita Rajan (Ash) planning to build a mega power project in Maharashtra. There are hurdles - some political and some criminal - that try to thwart this. Sarkar Jr is convinced on the power of the project and puts all his weight behind it. The story goes through twists and turns, with the Nagre family going through sacrifice after sacrifice, before the grand plot is revealed and things are settled.

The irritating part is the background score, especially evident in the first half. Too loud too often. Even the cinematography, used well at a lot of places, tends to get focussed on close-ups (at one point I found myself judging which part of Amitabh’s head was cut more from the screen, the hair or the beard).

All in all, a good Friday entertainer.

PS: Watch out for the surprise at the end. A bit filmy (didn’t appeal to the practical guy in me).
