Hi Guys,

This is first time I am writing a review on this website. This is a review which doesn?t comes after using the product for a month or two, this is a genuine review from a user who has used this phone for quite long time.

I bought a Samsung R220 in June 2002 and now it?s more than 2.5 years since I am using it. My handling is very rough; usage is quite high. And I must say the phone is really well built to withstand all such abuse.

I purchased this one when it was very new for Rs.6700/- (quite a high price in today?s context) the reason behind buying this one was that probably this was the first phone in the market with that electric blue colored backlight. It was like a fresh breeze, different from those dull greenish backlit LCD displays, and probably was the only phone apart from nokia offering a ringtone download capability.

The phone has been subjected to all sorts of abuse such as dropping from a height of 1.5 meters, getting wet in rain, vibrations while lying in car dash board etc. and that too quite often and still it is working really fine.

Although the markings on some of the keys have been worn off , still no issues as the keys are molded out of dual color plastic where the key is made up or a opaque plastic and the character inscribed on it is made out of a transparent plastic, so when the phone?s backlight is on, you see the key marking clearlydespite of the fact that the key is considerably worn out.

Regarding the battery, although the battery has budged out from center and a minor crack has developed on the outside surface of the battery, still the battery is performing almost as that of a new phone.

I never required a service for my phone so far. Although sometime back when I was talking on this phone, my voice was not going to the other party. After removing the battery of the phone, I found that the 2 of the 4 screws were missing. After replacing those screws the phone became alright. Probably due to loose screws, the microphone was having a loose connection with the main board (PCB) of the mobile.

Apart from this the phone has never ever given me any problems, and is a very useful phone indeed.

The features missing in it are that it does not support profiles, so you have to keep setting the mobile depending upon where you are. The other feature that?s missing is that you cannot add custom words to the T9 dictionary. The phone also does not support long messages.

Apart from this everything is just fantastic.

A really good product from Samsung.
