This was my first phone after I got into my current job around 3 years back. I bought it for Rs.6500, from gray market. Mind you, when I bought it without bill, I was very scared of something might go wrong with the phone. Praise the Lord, nothing has happened so far, that too after such a rough use. My usage is explained below.

I had seen this phone with my friend's friend and I really liked the bear screensaver. It had a very neat shape and the arial was making it look more manly. Thats how I bought this phone.

About my usage

I used to use this phone with lot of care during the earlier days because those days the blue display was the ongoing one. Thisone's blue display was too bright and it attracted very much.

Once I became a father of a very naughty kid (smiles) and as he was about 6-8 months, he started to play with this phone. Till that time the phone was really kept well. He used to put it in his mouth and many times it has happened that when I try calling someone or attending a call, my sons saliva starts dripping on my face or hands from the phone. Also whenever his saliva drips from the phone, the person at the other end cannot hear anything I speak. Then I used to switch off my phone for drying and after 2 days when I switch it on again, it works perfectly. My son has thrown it down from the first floor of our house. Only the battery came out and nothing other than that, except some scratches. At times it has happened that when I dial any number, the buttons are so hard that it does not push itself inside. After 2-3 attempts, it will start functioning slowly. It is because the cerelac which my son eats has got sticked on to the buttons and the board. I have seen him hitting the phone on the wall.

When compared with other phones I used

When I cut my land line to buy another mobile for my wife, I gave this R220 handset to her and I used the new samsung C100, bought on the first day of the launch for Rs.9500 with bill. My C100 got spoiled within 8 months. It was not used that roughly by me or by my son, neither I let him handle it rough also. Then I bought a Nokia 3100 for Rs.6000 with bill. I'm still using it. Its hardly around 5-6 months. But is almost at the dying stage. Compared to Nokia, this phone does not offer much features, nothing at all. Ring tones are basic and lot of drawbacks feature--wise when compared with Nokia, same range.

Overall

R220 is a durable model from Samsung. Even after such rough and bad use, the battery life is also pretty good. The phone does not offer much features, nothing at all when compared with a Nokia model of the same range. The background light is very bright that it affects the eyes during night. But the phone is a long lasting one. I really liked it for this reason.
