Last year LG's OLED TVs ruled the picture-quality roost, but archrival Samsung has been hard at work beefing up its LED LCD-based SUHD sets to compete. They've also added Smart Home and improved home-theater control.
Despite being an excellent example of LCD TV state of the art, Samsung's high-end JS9500 loses the picture quality battle against OLED TVs.
The Samsung UNJU7100 delivers the same high level of picture quality as some more expensive models, and beats most competitors for style and features.
When LED backlighting was first introduced on LCD panels, its goal is to produce deeper blacks than what could be achieved through CCFLs. The way traditional LCD TVs produces black is by "blocking" the always-on fluorescent backlight. As you can imagine, this somewhat inefficient method generally results in a lighter shade of black due to light leakage.
