The galaxy pop, known as galaxy mini outside India was my very first smartphone. I used it for 2 years and was a really good experience. In today's term the phone is pretty outdated and specs are lower than the cheapest phones available now. But 5 yeras back in the infancy of smartphones in India it was the best budget to mid-range phone.
It was a product of the golden age of Samsung galaxy when Samsung had monopoly over android market. And the phone even though plastic has great built quality and touch is easy to use, this explains the success that Samsung achieved. For the price range(around 8k at that time) it offered lots of features and software wise it supports all the application of a basic smartphone, I even installed jelly bean on it after rooting.
Rooting and custom roms was the salient feature of the phone. Because of the popularity of the phone in India and similar countries economy wise worldwide the phone has good online support and has dedicated forums for it. And so finding various custom roms and that too stable ones is not a problem. And custom roms utilitieses the potential of this phone to maximum.
But even with the custom roms the specs are not enough to compete with the basic of smartphone nowadays, still if you get this phone for 2k or less and only require basic functionality of a smartphone don't hesitate on buying.
