Its over a year that I have been using this phone, I was basically looking for a phone with qwert key pad and for surfing the net, and I am indeed satisfied with this model. So heres my review for the samsung corby pro:-
Design & Look:-
The Design and look of the handset is quite funky, suits well for youngsters. When u slide open the qwerty key pad it looks really nice.The plastic back panel could have been better, Although you get 3 back panels with this phone, the black one suits it well.You have volume key buttons on the right side and unlock button on the right side. The phone feels sturdy but is a bit heavy.
Features:-
The phone has OS made by samsung. Its pretty feature rich.
Browser - Dolphin(ver 1.5), pretty decent, good speed, but opera mini could have been a better option
Java- The phone supports java applications. I use applications like gmail, NGPAY, Nimbuzz, Snaptu and all these applications work pretty fine.
Display - The display is really good.It has a 240*320 display resolution, 2.8" screen and TFT display.You have 3 home screens and can select from 3 font styles.You also can select from multiple themes available.
Camera:- Corby pro has a 3 mega pixel camera and clarity of images is quite good. However you have to rely on natural light cause there is no flash. So images clicked in dark are not a bit hazy. Yet u have options like portrait, landscape, sunset; you also have the option of smile shot. It has an additional camera in the front for making video calls via 3G.Am attaching 2 pics clicked with my phone as samples.
Music - The corby pro has an FM radio and MP3 Player. The sound quality is really good and you have equilizer also. Just one drawback here is that if you r listening to a song, and want to listen to another song u have to begin scrolling right from the top of the song list. Also you need to unlock everytime you want to change the song.The speaker sound quality is fine.
Connectivity: - Corby pro supports 2.1 bluetooth and USB also. You can recharge the phone via the USB cable, so you need not carry your charger everytime.You also have wi-fi which is pretty fast depending upon the speed of your connection. You get amazing speed in surfing if you use 3G
Memory: - Corby pro has an internal memory of 128 MB which is just ok. This is where corby pro is superior to Corby plus. The later has an internal memory of just 70MB. You can use upto 2 applications simultaneously. The phonebook can store upto 2000 contacts which is more than enough
Messaging: - Corby pro is for sms lovers . the qwerty key pad is very convenient for typing messages. Also you can see the messages as conversations, so if you have an unlimited sms pack, its fun to have sms chats with this phone.You can integrate your email, however I feel the gmail application is more convenient to use rather than integrating it in your phone.
Battery back up: - the battery back up is pretty decent. With normal usage the battery lasts for about 2 days. However if you surf the web or listen to music for a long time, the battery lasts for about a day.
Google maps: -
Corby pro has preloaded google maps and this service is really very helpful. It specifically helped whole moving around in Goa, pune. But google maps doesnt work in 3G, really wonder why.
Other features: -
Corby has pre loaded widgets which are really cool. eg - accu weather, facebook, etc
You have one touch zoom function for viewing pics
You have all the basic features like: -Calender, Scheduler, Task List, Clock, Worldtime, Alarm, Currency Converter, Calculator, Memo Book, Stop Watch, Countdown Timer.
Contents in Box: -
One charger, 3 back panels, USB Cable, Handset, Headphones, and a leather cover. I wish the leather cover provided was a bit superior in quality.
Pros: -
Its touch as well as qwerty phone, Decent battery back up, Attractive user interface, Easy messaging
Cons:-
A bit heavy to carry, Tough to find a cover for this phone, Plastic back panel
Overall:-
So over all Samsung corby is a very Funky phone, and at a current price of Approx 8, 000 rs its a good value for money. The phone may lack if compared with the latest android phones, but this phone wont let you down if you are not hungry for too many applications.
