This Stephen King story really stirred my blood. I have had a fascination with vampire lore since I watched Dark Shadows as a child. Not since those early days of horror-watching have my teeth been so set on edge. It's a must read for fans of the vampire genre.
The story takes place in a small New England village where the main character who grew up there has come home to his roots. He is looking for inspiration to write another novel. His creativity has run dry, and he's hoping that a sojourn to his hometown will get the ink flowing again. As bad luck would have it, that's not all that's flowing in this burg.
King introduces you to the depravity and frailty of the folk who dwell on this bad lot. Many here have skeletons behind closet doors. You can almost see on the horizon the destiny of these miscreants. The unsavory scandals are nothing compared to the bloodsucker who is about to rise up and do some savoring of his own.
This is a must for big vampire fans. King's style and turn of phrase will hang you in suspense with dread and panic. The venom is infectious and you won't want to put this book down until the final nail hits the coffin.
There's lots of scary build-up for the collision course to come. The hero who is for the most part an innocent is going to come up against a fiend who has brought a scourge to his home. You can go home again, to the place where your lot has been cast, but if it's a King town, you best come armed.
