Bangalore is a paradise for both gourmet and gourmand! Every shopping / commercial area has its share of run of the mill veg joints, what I call cheap no nonsense food and of course the ubiquitous
Chinese restaurant representing both Shanghai and Shimoga. But to come up with a concept like Sahib, Sindh, Sultan needs skill, culinary expertise and of course that wonderful thing called imagination. Hats off master restaurateur Mr Nichani, you have done it again!

SSS is located in the Forum, perhaps an unlikely venue for such an exclusive restaurant, but maybe that’s the point. One minute you are in the middle of ultra modern steel, concrete, bright lights, thronging crowds, teenagers hanging around in groups, loud music, it’s pretty awful unless you are hell bent on shopping in one of the stores. The next minute you enter SSS and you wonder if a time machine has transported you back to the last century..

Warm soft light lighting, plush leather, the gleam of old brasswork and lovingly polished wood. A complete contrast to the chaos outside. There are two seating options, an exact replica of the old Pullman dining car and lower platform. To sit in the car you need to be in a group of four, since we were two we had to be content with the platform.

Don’t get me wrong, this ’’platform’’ is just as plush and the ambience is the same. The table is well laid the Steward arrives to take your order, well he is dressed like a ticket inspector. We order chilled hilled beer and get some delightful accompaniments on the house.

The menu is exhaustive and there is something to please every kind of palate. The items on the ’’burra sahib’s’’ menu are really special, what utterly delighted my mother was the Railway Mutton Curry. It reminded her off all the train journeys with my father across India. She couldn’t believe it. In short everything we ordered was excellent.

The service was excellent and quick and the waiters well trained and pleasant. That is important too, what is the use of excellent ambience, wonderful service and sloppyservice? A meal for two with beer, starters and no dessert cost around Rs 1000, which is a very good price for such a classy restaurant. Anyways, I have not found even one BJN outlet to be overpriced.

All in all, I have recommending SSs to all my friends and no one has been dissapointed.
