Lounge dining in style

By: fannt23 | Jun 05, 2009 11:28 AM
What you see – The color red hits you in theface as you walk down a long, crimson red-walled corridor to Vizag’snew pubbing entrant Rosso, at Waltair Uplands. A cushioned door opensto a fantastically
well spread-out and spaciouspub-cum-bar-cum-diner-cum-dance-floor done up (again) in reds andwhites and in paneled wood. With this kind of space and eclectic décor,it’s plain simple to see why Rosso is being defined as an elegantlylaid-back and classy ‘lounging club’ of Vizag.

What we get– Rosso gives pub-goers in Vizag a new experience of lounging, Italianstyle. Done up by known Delhi pub interior expert Sandy Verma, Rossocreates a sense of space, despite having earmarked areas. The diningarea is inviting with comfortable white settees placed against sheerwhite curtains and an LCD screen for virtual gaming to the left. Thisarea allows for a conversation, despite pulsating music thatreverberates on the raised dance floor that’s to the right, beside a DJconsole (all gizmo and hi-tech with its fair share of overhead strobelights, lasers, smoke machines, etc.). In-house DJ Bobsy plays a mix ofalternative rock, Bollywood music, hip-hop, rock and pop music here. Onthe opposite side is Rosso’s bar, which is large and displays importedspirits against red hues (but naturally), and has a seating ofhigh-back cushioned chairs that are different from the mundane steelspinning-seats.

On the menu, Rosso serves Continental, Tandoorand Chinese cuisines. We recommend Chef Style Mushroom with cocktailsauce (Rs. 110) for the vegetarians and Grilled Fish (Rs. 170) for thenon-vegetarians. Chef recommends the Tandoor Stuffed Kalmi Kebab (Rs.150 for grilled chicken legs stuffed with minced chicken and herbs). Tokeep your spirits high, bartender Ali suggests cocktail Rosso Punch (Rs. 250), a medley of dark rum, orange and pineapple juice withgrenadine and triple sec and lemon twist; and the mocktail Coco Exotica(Rs. 90), a blend of mango, peach, passion fruit and Vanilla ice cream. We find the mocktail exotic.

Our verdict
– Space and privacy is what MetroMela likes at Rosso, coupled with thedeep red décor ambience, good music and good food. Drop by on theweekend and hit the high nightlife note in Vizag, Italian-style.Parking space is available, although it gets difficult on weekends.

Anytime between – 7.30 PM – 11.45 PM
