When I was a teen, like most Indians, cricket was my passion.I used to play/follow cricket everyday and vacations would be entirely either cricket or table tennis days which never ended.I developed a liking for tennis in 1987 around the time when Pat Cash won Wimbledon beating Lendl in straight sets.Since then I’ve been a die-hard follower of the game(and a good club level player as well) and current French Open champion Roger Federer is one of my fav all-time players besides Monica Seles,Stefan Edberg and Juan Carlos Ferrero.

I am sure others who have written reviews on Roger have mentioned his amazing statistics well enough for me not to bore you with a repeat.Lets move on to 10 reasons why Roger Federer is not just the greatest player of alltime but a class human being:-

10)He is amazingly goodlooking(Pl read my list of best looking celebs incase you havenot https://mouthshut.com/review/Top_10_Best_Looking_Celebrities-164681-1.html

).A lot of times outer beauty is a reflection of inner state of mind and integrity. In Federer’s case it certainly is.

9)Have you heard of RF having an affair? No.Hes been die-hard devoted to his wife Mirka since 9 years.Incidentally Mirka is a former tennis player herself and its no surprise that this makes the marriage more successful between them(like Agassi/Graf)

And there more Federer on its way as Mirka is preg currentlyJ))))))(Possibly Federer junior vs Agassi junior at Wimbledon after 25 yrs!)

8)His statistics speak for himself.Highest no of Slams ever, one of the handful of players in the history of the game to win all Slams.Significantly high winning record against most players except a handful.Highest career prize money earned in the history of the sport. If I list all his outstanding stats I’ll run of of space here even before getting to point no 9:))))))))

And guess what?He is far from finished.RF intends to play until the mid-30’s(He’s only 27 now)

.

7)His record in Grand Slams speaks for itself(FYI,Grand Slam are best of 5 sets matches against other tournie matches which are best of 3 sets and separate the men from the boys). The consistency that he has shown in Slams since last 5 yrs is incredible.

6)His charities are hardly spoken about as hes such a class Mr Modest. He was in India in Dec 2006 for a similar charity which is significant because India is high on the “avoid” list of top international tennis players.Ask Tim Henman who, after winning the entire challenger tournament series in 1992(when he was just startng up) was so fed up with the lack of proper facilities in India that he swore (privately) never to come back to India as a player.

5)People keep talking about Lendl’s forhand or Agassi’s being the best .RF’s forehand has raised the standard several notches high.is inside out side spinning forhand is such a massive weapon. Not to forget that the entire forehand buildup is so perfect. He can murder more balls to his forehand when he chooses to.Ofcourse it’s a pity the ATP has decided to slow down some surfaces like grass which negates the efficacy of his forehand compared to Lendl’s or Agassi’s.

4)Roger Federer is always improving. And while he has the best all strokes/all-court game,he has really worked well improving the mental side to his game. While he certainly is in the 2nd half of his career,he’s playing smartly and winning matches against the young guns who have bigger shots like Del Potro,Monfils, etc by using smart tactics and strategies. From the looks of it he wl win around 22-23 Slams before he retires. When you think that AA won only 8,Lendl 7 and BB and SE 6 this gives you an indication as to just how dfomating he is.Also he has a great record at the yr ending Masters Cup which feautes the top 8 players. Its one thing winning titles but quite another consistently beating the hell out of yr 7 closest rivals as he has done 5 of the last 6 years.3)Pl reas the link to one of the best articles I have ever read on tennis recently.I donot wish to insult yr intelligence by saying anything else on Roger.

https://timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/columnists/matthew_syed/article6465803.ece

Matthew Syed, a former world class table tennis player and now one of the paper’s columnists, devoted his column to praising Federer and Nadal as men as well as players. He pointed out that everyone who knows them well view the pair as decent, courteous, honest and sensitive human beings and added, "to put it another way, two of the greatest players in history also happen to be men with values, perspective and morality."Syed went on to make some interesting points, namely that when he started competing at the top level in the mid eighties, there seemed to be a code out there beyond the confines of sport that, to succeed, you had to step on people’s toes or even their necks. It was called "necessary selfishness." But Syed adds, "You want to know a funny thing? It never had a scrap of justification, not even as a description of top sportsmen, far less as a justification for dodgy behavior. I have found, swanning around the world of sport, that there is no correlation whatsoever between selfishness and success. No connection between nastiness and accomplishment. Sure, sport is about winning but many of the greatest sportsmen and women I have met never lost sight of the context. It is no good winning if that means forfeiting one’s soul. Winning is not merely about claiming the final point but about expressing a wider philosophy of sport and life. Nadal and Federer demonstrate a deep and implicit understanding of this truth in almost everything they do."
