Rise and Fall of Third Reich is the definitive guide to Nazi history. Shirer candidly narrates how a maniac like Adolf Hitler became the Supreme Leader of a historically aggressive nation like Germany. The book discusses relevant history as ancient as Bismarck and his ''Blood and Iron''.
Shirer's other two works ''Berlin Diary'' and ''End of a Berlin Diary'' were no doubt biased, as he was experiencing Nazi harassment first-hand. But this big book is impartial and tries to present a majority view of history as it happened.
After the Nazis fell, the tons of documents captured were made public a few years later. Shirer was amongst the first to sift through them. Also, the book draws lot of information from sources close to Hitler like the diaries of Alfred Jodl and Joseph Goebbels.
Finally, this book is the first stop for anyone interested to know more about World War II or Nazi Germany.
