Disc: This is purely on my personal experience and opinions. I may differ from your opinons and I am not against Reliance products.

First of all, I shouldn't have shifted my house..which led me to surrender my Airtel wired BB. As in my new location, the ports are not available, I was not able to transfer my Airtel connection there. Fine. The second mistake is, I should have gone for another wired BB such as Hathway or some local service providers. My third mistake is, when I had a choice between Tata Photon and Reliance BB, I had chosen Reliance. Am I against Reliance BB? No. Then why this review...let's discuss.

Tata and Reliance offered very good tariff plan and discounted price for the device to my office PROJECT related procurements. After reading decent amount of reviews and its attractive price tag and monthly rental, I went for Reliance BB (Device cost - 1250 and 5GB plan for 600 per month). But right from the day 1, I have been facing the following:

  • The average speed is very very low. Most of the times I get 100 Kbps (yes, you read it right!)..or even lesser. I always wondered, if this is the average speed I get or we get...then why these guys advertise that it is a 3.1 Mbps connection?

  • I am a continuous user of net. So after 30 mins or 45 mins...it disconnects...or the send/rec speed goes 0 (yes it is zero).

  • The customer care--do they really care!!...whenever I contact them...they come back in a day or two and again ask.."Sir, you are in which location?"....even after giving all my connection number and home address...they ask same question again and again...wondering do they have any cusotmer information system with them or not! ok coming back to the point...the responses were mostly like this ..."Sir, as the number of customers has increased...the traffic conjestion is more...we are working on that"..CRAP.

My thoughts are:

  • If you are a business user and travel a lot, better go for some other data card. But the good point with Reliance BB is..you will get signals in even a remote places. I had used my friend's Tata photon for couple of weeks...and its comparatively better than Reliance.

  • If you are a business user and travel a lot and make net based calls (Skype/ communicator)...better drop the idea and use your mobile or visit the nearest net cafe :-).

  • If you are a business user and work from home often...then its always better to go for wired connection (IMHO - airtel is too good).

...and what have I done now?........found some ports are available in my location...hence applied for Airetel broadband again :-)

Thanks,

Shoban
