Those who do not know what an OS is
...
* You might have heard of 98,2000, Xp ...these are the names of OS.
*Operating System is the lowest layer of Software running of Computers.
Ringing any bells ...if no ...please quit here because after this line a lot more will come similar to above.
I will write my review in very generic language.
This review is more about Linux as an OS.
Linux as an Operating System is quite popular in some part or the other of World. It is popular in South American countries like Brasil etc.
For a person who is just starting to use computers Linux is easy but to a person addicted to Windows it is very difficult.
It is because in Linux you are dependent on Command Promt so you use more keyboard than mouse to perform any action and it is generally easy to double click and do than to remember a command and do.
In linux you need to have a user id and password else you can not do anything.
Red Hat Linux or any other Linux comes under General Public License i.e. GPL which say that you can use Linux to write or make projects but those should not be sold ...they should be shared to all.
Few Points Worth Noting ....
*Installation of Software :- To intall any software on Linux is a bit different than Windows and you have so many options to start with like RPM (red hat package manager) which installs software with the help of command promt.Other options of downloading a zip file and compile it is very difficult.
*Internet Browsing :- This is quite nice in Linux and Tabbed browing started from here i.e. Mozilla Browser.
*Entertainment :- Xmms player normally runs mp3 in linux and you can use Real Player also. There are so many players given in all Red Hat Versions.
*Document Processors :- Open Office gives you all the facility to read write documents and excel sheets.
*Developement :- For Programmers gcc and g++ compiler gives you very good environment for developement.
Linux overall you can say is more sophisticated and it do not feed you by spoon as Windows so you may find it difficult to work but Linux is more robust and high performing than Windows.
Red Hat is the name of a kind of distribution of Linux. So does Ubunto , Mandrake and others.
