Post Lagaan,Indian Cinema has become aware of the high standards it suddenly set.The two majpor woods Bollywood and Kollywood however interrupted the same awareness in two different senses. Bollyworld had made an earnest effort to live up to the huge standards and thus innovation,research, storylines, marketing,versatility which were not parts of mainstream Hindi Films are highly evident nowadays.

The story has been different in Kollywood,thanks to the attitude of filmmakers who saw the big people in a league of their own, and thought they wont match the established names and finally decided to work within their limitations. This made Kollywood devoid of any progress and it as it this moment RAMANA comes in as a heartening factor.For everyone associated with the film,the movie was simply one step ahead of their standards. For the last decade,no politically based films could do an encore at the box office, except for Shankars hatrick Gentleman,Indian, and Mudhalvan. Apart from these three no film could do the trick and even big names like Maniratnam, BharathiRaja, Parthipan, Vijaykaanth, Vikram, Ajith and now Rajnikaanth himself have failed miserably.With these failures in mind,the whole Tamil Cine Industry decided to play it safe with the politically based movies. Ramana decided to break that self imposed rule and therefore deserves a huge pat in the back for cleverly chosing a political story, working with full dedication and trying to match the high standards set up by Shankar. The film was splendid teamwork with appreciable perfomance from the cast and the crew. Playing the main cast,Vijaykaanth averts his regular exxageration,over build ups and enormity of dialogues and underplayed himself for the benefit of the film,which really worked out for him. The subcast lead by Vijayan and YuhiSethu have perormed appreciably, with Simran essaying a neat cameo. The crew too are matching with the cast in perfomance. It was very fulfilling to see befitting and brilliant dialogues add on as assets to well built screenplay. While no words had to be written on Illayarajas background music,MS Prabhu make a mark for himself with his photography.Editing,a vital component of these political movies has been executed in a impeccable fashion by Suresh Urs. The director Murugadas(Dheena) with adequate pacing,wonderful emphasis and correlation,less compromises has made a name for himself with this movie.

The sincere effort made by the director to match Shankar in terms of sub cast perfomance and handling the masses is indeed praiseworthy.T hough not to the level of Shankar in these elements,they just provide the necessary impact. The film has a few flaws in the areas,there have been a few exaggerations, few biases,few places where things could have been improvised upon,but they all seem to be negligible when you consider the film as a whole. The story is once again about the evil of corruption and how a man severly affected by corruption drives the menace of corruption out of the country with his team,and what happens to his life once corruption is wiped out. There may be some areas for a critic to pick upon,but the fan is totally pleased.
