I am sure we all have faced a situation where we neither hate or love the movie. This was exactly the case for me for this movie. I was obviously expecting heaps from it looking at the impressive star
cast. Within the first 10 minutes, I knew this was nothin’ but a frame - 2 - frame copy of the Hollywood Spirit flick ’’The Gift’’. Im sure Mahesh Manjrekar would have directed this one while watchin’ the ’’the Gift’’ DVD on laptop. In short, I would rather watch ’’The Gift’’ again than play this desi version.

Now, I wouldn’t call Rakht a real bad flick. Thanks to the decent direction and background music. It surely did give a feeling of it bein’ a lil scary. The plot is quite simple. Bipasha is a planchit who has visions. She cites Natasha (Amrita Arora) who is dead in various weird forms and places. Out of curiousity, she gets people to believe her which will apparantely help in the investigation of her murder if it was to be. This spins a few internal tales which was dragging the story. The suspense of the murderer was not the most hard core. Most of the viewers must have got to know way ahead.

The highlight of the movie is the theme (I hoped it was a first). A smart way to get a viewer to start believing in the spiritual world (Yes! it exists). The problem with the movie was that he was heavily lifted up from the hollywood counterpart which the director could not control and story started to go all over the place. The best part after the theme is the start cast.

Everyone was appropriately casted especially Bipasha and Dino. Bipasha plays the role of her lifetime. She could easily be compared to Cate Blanchett. It is difficult role to play the role but Bipasha surely played it to total justice.

Treat to see Dino playing woman-bashing playboy and was quite impressive. Sunil shetty gets a great role and now I know this guy can play anythin’. The rest including Sanjay Dutt is just passable. Watch the movie for some chills and thrills but do not expect a lot of entertainment as such. Gets boring at times but luckily picks up in the end.
