I started visiting Rainbow hospital right from the first day of my wife's pregnancy. I had insurance from my company. My consulting doc was . She is extremely irritating and short tempered. For her every pregnant lady is just another case and not someone's wife and baby. She spends hardly 3-4 mins for each patient.
It was way too expensive but I thought it all can be covered up in insurance. So, I was happy.
Everytime I went to the hospital, they told me about one or the other complications in pregnancy. I felt, my wife and baby were into safe hands and that I had chosen the best hospital.
I later discovered that none of the expenses would be covered by my company's insurance as they had 9 months of waiting for maternity. This was a shock to me but I was still ready to pay everything from my pocket to ensure the safety of my baby and wife.
During the end of 32nd week of pregnancy, told us that if my wife gets through 33 weeks, we would be lucky. She also told us to meet the NICU where they would keep the baby for observation as it would be a preterm delivery. Upon enquiring about the finance, I was told at rainbow hospital that without insurance, the cost would vary. A normal delivery would now cost me about 60K instead of 32K and a CS would cost me around 84K instead of 48K. Now why would a hospital do that? Why would the hospital worry if I was getting the money from my own pocket or from an insurance. So much of cheap and petty business oriented hospital!. The NICU charges was approx. 25K per day and they would have to keep the baby for 2 weeks. I was shocked.
I knew I couldn't have afforded this. So, I decided to go to another hospital. It was Basant Sahney in West Marredpally, secunderabad. Each doctor is fantastic and they spend 15-20 mins for each consultation and charges are just 200.
My wife delivered in her 35th week. Baby was kept in NICU for just 1 day and it cost me 8K per day. They did not ask for unnecessary tests and charged me only for the genuine reasons. I'm now a proud father.
So, please think 100 times before going to Rainbow. They are money suckers.
