Rahul Dravid is a very good technical player. He has played very consistently for India over the last few years and has a long way to go.

Rahul Dravid really is a very classy player. He also has
a very good technique which does not include any hard-hitting or cross-batted shots.

Many people refer to him as just a test-match player. He is the ’Michael Bevan of India.’ He doesn’t go for the big strokes but moves around for single’s and two’s. This becomes a big advantage as he is constantly rotating the strike. He allows himself as well as his partner on the other side to settle down and plan out the strategy. His partner may be good on the off-side, or on the leg-side, or maybe a big-hitter of the ball only taking the aerial route. This upsets the bowlers of the opposite team as they are not allowed to settle in and bowl a consistent line, as they have to change their line and length for Dravid and his partner.

Another advantage is that he reduces the risk of getting out by not hitting big shots, but still keeping the score-board ticking. And when the opponents look at the score-board, they see a huge total.

Dravid plays great strokes and is specialised in the cover drive, leg glance and flick. He has a very good temperament and can go on for really big innings once he settles in.

Dravid’s innings are sometimes overshadowed and therefore many people don’t see him as an outstanding player.

Remember, the record partnership with Ganguly in the world cup. Ganguly made approx. 180 and Dravid made 145. Dravid’s innings got overshadowed.

In the previous test-match series with Australia, V.V.S Laxman made 281 and Dravid made 180, again getting overshadowed. In the next match, again the same thing happened when Tendulkar when on to make a century and Dravid was left behind after making a good score.

In the ODI series, too. Dravid was the highest scorer for India with something in the 80s and Virendra Sehwag made a half century. But Sehwag got the attention as he also took 3 wickets.

There are many more instances but not enough space to mention. Dravid has been performing consistently.

A good thing abt. dravid is that he is also a trained wicket-keeper. He is also a good fielder. He still has a long way to go and I hope that his name will be right up there with the greats of Indian cricket.

Best of Luck!!!

Pros:
Good technique, nice ground strokes, good temperament
Cons:
Image of being just a test-match player
