Radio City was a big thing is Bangalore when it started.
You got to work an everyone used to ask if you listened to
it on ur way. One did not need to keep getting new cassettes
for the car.
Heres what I feel about it now that its an old
established part of our lives and the inital euphorias gone:
reachWow - drove to Wayanad recently and Blore was with us all the
upto Mysore! Was good fun tuning in to the Breakfast Show
early in the morning far away from Blore.
The RJs These guys are good. Surely not the most fluent or the most
knowledgeable about music and the like - but sure got the
gift of the gab - and retain a lot of Bangalore flavour
which endears them to the listeners. Only drawback is they
never sound involved enough when they do serious interviews.
Probably shouldnt!!
Positive FeaturesLingo Leelas ok. Sister Stellas hilarious :)
The most useful things:
- local promos, gigs
- really reduces road rage and traffic stress
- traffic updates - its a smart idea to get users and
taxicabs involved - but all to often the info is a little
generic (I mean traffics slow all over Blore all the time
anyway :) ) A traffic expert guiding them thru this might
be better.
- lotsa contests (tho Ive never participated yet)
Negatives - Too much variety. I guess the focussed programming will
happen once more channels get in. In trying to please all
theyve not defined their style or character - its more
RJ specific. I guess the advertising also gets less
targetted because of this.
- They should have a warning about incorrect English lest
kids pick it up from them :) I guess its a nice thing
to have a Blore flavour - but by the by will ruin more
than one extempore contestants chances.
- No online radio (check out Yahoo Radio) - would be good
at work in a place like Blore.
- Some groundwork would be good too. Most programming is
around songs/people dialling in. They could hit the road
and get Blore more involved.
Its added a lot to Blores existence. Every mall, shop and
car is live with 91 FM. Time to have a little more competition
though...
