Race(released mid March 2008),the first film I saw in a theatre in 9 months(for reasons some of my close freinds know) is definitely
in my list of all-time great movies.I could not have asked to see a better movie to see at that point and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.

Plot
The movie, directed by Abaas-Mastan(who specialise on thrillers like Baazigar,Naqab, etc),is about 2 brothers- Saif(called Ranvir) who owns a hugh farmhouse in South Africa and his brother Akshay Khanna (called Rajeev) who has no interest in his brothers business and is a chronic drunkard.Saif sacrifices his love Bipasha to Akshay when he learns that Akshay wl permanently stop his drinking habits if he did that. This triggers off the film towards unexpected twists and turns starting with Saif being bumped off by Akshay towards the interval.Katrina is Saif’s loyal and devoted (and stunning) secretary.Anil Kapoor is the detective aided by a repulsive Sushma Reddy. It is only fair I donot disclose anymore of the plot to ensure you see this classic.

What’s hot
10)No wastage of time:-There isnt too much wastage of time in this classic. You never get the impression that things are endlessly dragging on or it being a test to yr patience.Infact the 155 minute adventure is just the perfect timing for this flick-neither too much nor too less!
9)Camerawork:-Picturisation of South Africa is wonderful especially the aerial shots and the ones in the second half.
8)Clothes:-Waredrobe of all actors/actresses is almost perfect and as good as you would want it.Katrina and Bipasha have been made to expose when required and they looked like a million bucks esp when required.
7)Amazing scenes:-Still cant forget the scene where Saif marches ahead of his arch rival on the racing field.Another unforgettable one is when Akshay after bumping off Saif goes to his house at the highest point in SA and boasts of having conquered all against all odds. Many other scenes but they will give away the tremendous plot which is what we head to next!
6)Dialogues:-They really leave an impact and are apt for the occassion.Due to the suspense attached to the film,it would be criminal on my part to reveal them!
5)Songs:-I initially wasnt too impressed but have changed my opinion since."Zara Zara Touch Me"  and "Dekho Nashe Mein" sets my heart beating big time (like ’Yeh Dil Tumpe Aag Gaya" from Aitraaz). The title song impresses as well."Pehli Nazar" is pleasing to the ears.
4)Acting:-Saif is outstanding to say the least.Like Vivek Oberoi in Company(and Saathiya),Sanjay Dutt in Vaastav and Shah Rukh in Don,you have to say noone could have acted better in this role better than Chotte Nawab.Akshay is brilliant as well, although overshadowed by Saif.Bipasha,Anil Kapoor and Katrina make the film better than what it is with their performances as well.
3)Wonderful combination of a sheer entertainer:-This flick is an ideal combination of suspense, romance, plot, deceit, action, comedy, etc. To have such an almost-perfect mix  of an entertainer speaks very well of the directors Abbas-Mastan as normally there is an overdose of one or the other.
2)Plot and execution:-This is the biggest standout of the film.It is all well and fine to have a great script and plot (as a lot fo films do) but it never shows in the execution. The effort Abbas-Mastan have given to every minute detail is a wonderful example to many potential film directors.
1)Moral Message/Values:-The excellent(and most understated) message of the film is its biggest USP-Life is fair and you get what you deserve in life.I will refrain from saying anything more as I donot wish to kill the suspense and would want everyone to watch the movie.

What’s not
1)Sameera Reddy is the only mention on this one.Not only is her presence not required in the movie but her acting is awful. She is mightily irritating and a real eyesore.Abban-Mastan,this was a serve on the fault line!

I have been trying to go again to Inox to watch it a 2nd time but there have been more important things to address in my spare time. The VCD wl be out soon and I wl be one of the first buyers of this "prized possession".For those who havenot watched this film ,rush to yr nearest friendly neighbourhood multiplex. It is a movie not to be missed and that is just putting it mildly!!!!!!!!!!This is an all-time great in my eyes alongwith others like Company,Aaitraaz,Dhadkan,Kkrish,Corporate, etc.

My sincere apologies to mouthshut and all regular readers of my reviews(like Sweets_desire,Fenil Seta, etc) for not writing for almost 10 months thoughs some of you know I had strong personal reasons (nothing to do with mouthshut which is a great site).I must say I’ve missed mouthshut as much as you people have missed my reviews.I do hope you enjoy reading this review of mine as much as I did writing it!

My next review wl be on my all-time top 25 Hindi Songs

PS:-Faisal ,can I give 6 stars for this movie?!
