Terrible baggage handling

On the 2nd june, I took QR638 back to singapore. It has been a long tiring flight of 17 hours. I waited at the baggage counter for almost 1 hour to realize my baggage is nowhere to be found.


After all the bags cleared, a lady from dnata explained that my bag was not uplifted to the airline and she has been informed by Qatar to let me know. I spent the next hour trying to file the missing luggage report. I don't understand how is that possible when I checked in 2 luggage.


If both was not uplifted I could understand that maybe due to human error. However, 1 was ok and another was not. just doesn't make sense! Even though I have gotten consistent updates, the updates was not consistent. First I was informed the baggage was not uplifted and I should receive it in the next 24-48 hours.


Next thing I knew, bag cannot be found at Doha or London. 3 days later, I was made to file a missing luggage report and was told the possibility of my bag being lost! 2 days later, dnata called me to inform that my bag is being found and will have it deliver to my home. Phew, luckily my luggage had been found or it would have been a terrible ordeal trying to file a claim.


When my bag arrived , to my horror- it was completely ruined! The handles were gone, rollers were spoilt, even the zip appeared torn! Worst , my baggage had a padlock and the zipper holding the padlock is completely broken! How is this possible! I deposited a perfectly good condition luggage only to have it returned in such a bad shape!!!


I called to ask what happened and was told that I would receive a damage report. To date , I have not received anything.


This trip I was very hesitant to sit qatar as I have never taken before . However, my friends swear that it is as good as SIA in terms of service and airplane interior- almost like 5 stars. After the good reviews by my friends, I decided to choose qatar even though it meant a transit was needed. I even recommended my parents to book qatar for their Switzerland trip.


Not once , throughout the entire process did qatar offer any form of apologies , it was handled by dnata from start till end. Not once, was I given a clear picture on how could this ever happen. To top it off, dnata informed me that they will send a repair agent to fix my luggage in 2 weeks time.


I have spent hours and even more to solve this issue. It adds to my hassle and opportunity lost when most of my business items were in my luggage.


It has been nearly a month and I have not heard from qatar about the delayed or damaged baggage report .


However, after what I experience, I truly doubt I will ever sit qatar again.


As a frequent traveller, I implore the authorities to look into the marketing guidelines for airlines. Also for travelers, please think twice when booking qatar again.
